Anhydrous Ammonia Leak Causes Evacuation

An anhydrous ammonia leak at the Corbin Ice Company, Tuesday, resulted in an evacuation of a half-mile radius of the plant, located on the Cumberland Falls Highway, and with the response of dozens of emergency agencies.

The release, believed to have been caused by a leaking shut-off valve, was reported at around 5:40pm Tuesday. Reports that authorities are investigating the possibility that the leak was caused by an attempted theft have not been confirmed.

Region 11 Hazmat conducted an evaluation and the scene was rendered safe just after 9pm.

The evacuation was done as a precautionary measure.

An investigation into the incident is underway by the EPA and State Fire Marshall's Office.

According to Corbin Ice Company Officials, tests of the Ice at the Plant showed no contamination.

Laurel County Man Arrested for Manufacturing Meth

A Laurel County man was arrested Tuesday on meth manufacturing charges.

Sheriff Fred Yaden said probation and parole officers contacted his department and reported that when they went to the residence of 42 year old Kenneth Adams, they observed items commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine. According to sheriff Yaden, Adams was convicted in 2005 for Manufacturing Methamphetamine and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Adams had been out of prison and was on parole for about 10 months.

Adams was arrested and charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine, and Trafficking in Methamphetamine and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
