Police ready to control crowds as Cats take on Jayhawks

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Police say they are ready to control crowds when the Cats take on the Jayhawks Monday night.

Lexington City Police said they will be out in force to help keep order, planning a few adjustments from Saturday, when thousands of fans spilled onto strees after Kentucky defeated Louisville in the Final Four.  Rowdy fans torched couches and even overturned a car before setting it ablaze.

Officers arrested 27 people during the mayhem, mainly on charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication.  The scene was similar in 1998 when the Cats won the National Championship game.  That year, 300 officers in full riot gear lined downtown streets as nearly 15,000 fans gathered to celebrate.  Only 10 arrests were made that year, but 25 people had to be treated for minor injuries.

You can listen to the game tonight on T-107.  Tip-off is at 9:23 p.m.
