Deputies find stolen items during drug bust on KY 192

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying stolen property recovered in a drug bust over the weekend.

After executing a search warrant Saturday at a residence on KY 192, deputies arrested 39-year-old Teresa Scott and 24-year-old Thomas Scott on drug trafficking charges after finding numerous pills, scales and an undisclosed amount of cash inside the residence.

While there, deputies also found numerous items that are believed to have been stolen, including three flat-screen televisions, several digitial cameras, watches and other jewelry.

If anyone has been the victim of a recent burglary or theft where such items were taken, they should contact that Laurel County Sheriff’s Office at 606-864-6600.

Man allegedly assaults girlfriend and her 7-year-old daughter

A London man was arrested Sunday after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and her 7-year-old daughter.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a complaint on Baker Lane in London just after 6 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, they found a 25-year-old woman with black, swollen eyes and a bruise on her arm.

Deputies arrested 29-year-old Jonathan Hicks on charges of second degree assault, fourth degree assault and endangering the welfare of a minor, after he reportedly hit a 7-year-old child and forced her to stand outside in the cold without shoes. 

Hicks was also charged with giving officers false information upon arrest.

Rockholds man arrested for jail assault

State police have arrested a Rockholds man after he allegedly attacked another inmate inside the Whitley County Jail.

Criminal records indicate that 26-year-old David Worley threatened and then forced himself on another man while in the shower last Monday, Jan. 2.

Worley has been charged with first-degree sodomy and is being held without bond.

Child dies after crash in Rockcastle County

A little girl is dead and her brother is in the hospital after a deadly crash in Rockcastle County.  

It happened Saturday afternoon on US 150 and Maretburg Road. 

Police say 23-yr-old Jody Hayes pulled her car into oncoming traffic.

Her passengers, 7 yr old Jada Hayes and 5-year-old Malachi Hayes, were airlifted to UK Hospital.

Jada Hayes died Sunday afternoon.

At last check, Malachi Hayes was listed in critical condition.

Two people in the other car suffered minor injuries.

Spree of church burglaries in Laurel and Knox counties

Police are investigating after a spree of church burglaries in Laurel and Knox counties.

There were four burglaries in Laurel County and three in Knox County.  In all instances, electronics and musical instruments were taken.

Man dies in motorcycle crash in Laurel County

A man is dead after a motorcycle crash in Laurel County Saturday night.

According to reports, 39-year-old Shawn Evans died when he crashed his motorcycle into a car on Highway 192 at 229 in Laurel County.

The crash remains under investigation.  No one in the car was hurt.

Boy injured trying to save pet from house fire

A young boy injured in a fire in Laurel County is now out of the hospital.

6-year-old Brandon Bayes was injured Saturday while trying to go back into his family’s burning home to save a pet.

His mother also suffered injuries when she went in after him.  Two other children and their grandmother escaped without injury.

Two arrested for attempted robbery in Bell County

Two people were arrested Saturday night in Bell County after an attempted robbery at a Family Dollar Store.

Officials believe 37-year-old Michelle Murphy and 34-year-old Michael Paul North are also responsible for an armed robbery at Mac’s Fillin’ Station in Lily on Dec. 29.

The two were arrested on charges of first degree robbery; more charges are pending.

Kentucky woman indicted for threatening George W. Bush and Mitch McConnell

A Kentucky woman has been indicted on charges of threatening former President George W. Bush and U.S. Senator Mitch McConell of Kentucky.

49-year-old Susan Mary Collins of Lexington was indicted on one count of making a threat against a former president and one count of mailing a threatening communication.

The indictment alleges that on Sept. 2, Collins mailed one letter addressed to McConnell and another to Bush threatening to injure them.

 The wording of those letters has not been revealed.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says Collins could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Woman faces drug charges after found passed out in parking lot

 A London woman was arrested Wednesday night on drug charges after police say she was found passed out in a parking lot.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Department responded to a complaint outside a parking lot on KY 490 to find 30-year-old Margie Dezarn passed out in the passenger’s seat of a pickup truck.

The deputy found assorted prescription pills in her possession, including Oxycontin and Neurontin. 

She was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance, Prescription Drugs not in Proper Container and Tampering with Physical Evidence after the deputy says she tried to conceal the pills. 

She was also charged on an outstanding bench warrant for unlawful possession of a meth precursor. 

She was lodged in the Laurel County jail.
