An ATV accident, Saturday afternoon, on Ky 718 in the Scalf community of Knox County, claimed the life of a 12-year-old Knox County girl.
According to Kentucky State Police Sgt. Jimmy Young, of the Harlan Post, a 13-year-old boy was operating the ATV, with the girl as a passenger on the back. The ATV ran off the roadway and overturned, ejecting both operator and passenger. The ATV came to rest on top of the girl, who was not wearing a helmet. Both children were flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where the 12-year-old girl died.
Police have not released the identity of the girl.
Trooper Jacob Wilson is investigating. Police say no charges are pending at this time.
